🔮 The Witch offered a creative and unusual take on the murder-mystery genre. The premise felt different from other mysteries I’ve read, and the unexpected plot developments kept the story from becoming predictable. The writing was clear and enjoyable, the dialogue felt natural, and the story flowed smoothly without becoming repetitive, confusing, or awkward.

👥 The characters felt believable and fully developed. I understood their motivations, their actions suited their personalities, and their relationships developed naturally. Julia’s story drew me into Pemberton’s complicated history, while Caroline’s story became one of the most memorable parts of the book.

🕯️ The individual stories involving Caroline, Archie, Molly, Letty, Ethel, Mick, and Cecilia all contributed to the larger mystery. Freida McFadden brought those different characters and timelines together in a way that made the conclusion feel complete and rewarding.

💭 The story also explored meaningful subjects such as Alzheimer’s disease, death, caring for elderly loved ones, morality, and the paranormal. It included several difficult emotional and moral decisions, giving the book layers that extended beyond the surface-level mystery.

👻 I’ll admit that the paranormal elements made it difficult for me to become invested in the beginning. Stories about ghosts roaming hallways, knocking on doors, and frightening people generally don’t hold my attention. I believe in the paranormal to an extent, but hauntings alone aren’t usually enough to pull me into a story.

📈 However, at around the 61% mark, everything changed for me. I became much more interested and eager to discover how the story would end. Although this wasn’t a book I finished as quickly as I normally finish Freida McFadden’s thrillers, the later developments made the journey completely worthwhile.

😲 The ending was excellent. Throughout the book, I believed the story was leading in one direction, only to discover that something entirely different had been happening. I even returned to parts of the ending to ensure I fully understood what had happened to everyone. That is the kind of conclusion that makes me reconsider the entire story—and I loved it.

📚 This may not be Freida McFadden’s typical murder mystery, but it demonstrated just how well she can combine mystery, psychological suspense, family secrets, history, and paranormal elements. I enjoyed it enough that I plan to purchase a finished copy for my shelf.

The Witch surprised me. The paranormal beginning initially made it difficult for me to become invested, but once the deeper mystery emerged, I couldn’t wait to discover the truth.

The characters were believable, the writing flowed naturally, and the story explored meaningful subjects beyond the mystery itself. Every character and storyline ultimately served a purpose, and the final reveal changed how I understood everything that came before it.

The ending was creative, unexpected, and incredibly satisfying. It brought the entire story together so well that I went back and reread parts of it to make sure I hadn’t missed anything. This was a different kind of Freida McFadden book, but it was an excellent one—and it earned all five stars from me.
